What Web 2.0 Should Look Like?

What’s Web 2.0 ? According to wikipedia,

The term Web 2.0 refers to a second generation of services available on the World Wide Web that lets people collaborate and share information online

Now let me list elements used by Web 2.0 websites, based on general observation :

Rounded Corners
Big Text (Verdana or Georgia)
Gradients on top- like technorati, Wordpress
Bright Colors
Tabs created from lists
Big Text Box for login form
Brightly colored or glassy icons
Use lots of Javascript library for effects (prototype,behavior,moo.fx,yui)

That’s all i could list for now, care to add more?

You summed it all up in a short list. Bravo!

I think you need to add a 9th item. The Web2.0 feel. Some design, even with all the items listed above still do not have the proper web2.0 look. It feels like it’s lacking of something.

By the way, verdana? I think Web2.0 is Arial for sans serif.

Isn’t Web 2.0 an overused buzzword for corporate non-geeks who don’t know what a website is even for?

It doesn’t even have to fit all that. It just has to fulfill one important criteria, the ability to socialise with the public. Give control of the site to the public rather than the owner.

Anything else that gives rise to this ideal is a poster child for the new generation Web++ site.
